Bed sores (also commonly referred to as pressure sores, bedsores, and pressure injuries) can be highly problematical if allowed to develop and worsen. One of the most common types of nursing home neglect lawsuits (and, if applicable, wrongful death lawsuits) concern the formation and accompanying harm caused by bed sores. In these lawsuits, negligent health care is often alleged by plaintiffs. Pressure sores, and the harm they can cause, are further discussed on the “Pressure Sores” page. An excerpt:
Regardless of why the pressure sores have developed, it is absolutely imperative that they are treated immediately in a proper manner. This is so that they don’t worsen in condition, which can lead to a range of various adverse health conditions – and possibly lead to death. There have been many recent lawsuits – some in the Chicago area as well as elsewhere in Illinois – in which bedsores have been alleged to have caused serious injuries to nursing home residents, and in some cases – as seen in wrongful death lawsuits – the deaths of nursing home residents.
A recent lawsuit in which the formation and worsening of bed sores is alleged is discussed in the September 19, 2018 Madison Record article titled “Willow Creek Rehabilitation & Nursing Center named in wrongful death suit.” An excerpt concerning the decedent, Lisa Stanton, and the alleged negligent care she received prior to her death:
According to the complaint, Stanton was admitted to Willow Creek Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in May 2016. As a result of the nursing facility’s negligence, Stanton suffered an urinary tract infection, severe bed sores and deep tissue injuries. She died later that month. The plaintiff alleges the nursing facility failed to implement preventive measures to avoid pressure ulcers and infections.
Additional details regarding bed sores and the severe harm they can cause can be seen in the sources mentioned above.
