Illinois Nursing Home Fire Injures Four People

As discussed on the “Chicago Nursing Home Burns” page, there are a variety of ways in which nursing home residents can get burned in Chicago area nursing homes.  Of course, one of the main ways nursing home residents get burned and otherwise injured is from fires that occur in nursing homes.

There are many reasons that fires start in nursing homes, but if proper safety procedures and maintenance are instituted in the nursing home, the risk of such fires should be greatly diminished if not eliminated.

A nursing home fire broke out in a nursing home facility in unincorporated Cook County near Park Ridge on Thursday, February 19, 2015.  Four people were injured and hospitalized as a result of this nursing home fire.

An excerpt from the February 19, 2015 Chicago Tribune article titled “Four hospitalized following Maine Township nursing home fire“:

The fire was reported around 8:15 a.m. inside a second-floor room at the three-story Ballard Respiratory and Rehabilitation Center, 9300 Ballard Road, in unincorporated Maine Township.

According to the Chicago Tribune article as well as other media sources, four people were taken to local hospitals, primarily hurt from smoke inhalation.  Two of the four people, said to be nursing home residents, required advanced life support.

The fire was contained to one unit, due largely in part to the building’s sprinkler system.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Additional details and possible updates concerning this nursing home fire and resulting accident injuries can be seen a variety of media sources, including the Chicago Tribune article mentioned above as well as the February 19 CBS Chicago article titled “Four Hospitalized After Fire At Des Plaines Nursing Home.”
