Illinois Neglect Lawsuit Concerning Pressure Sores

As frequently discussed in this site, bedsores (also called pressure sores, pressure ulcers, and bed sores) can directly and indirectly lead to numerous adverse health conditions – especially if the are not promptly and properly treated.  Neglect of bedsores can not only be deadly, but also involve a variety of painful conditions.

One of the adverse health conditions that can occur due to bedsores is that of sepsis.  Simply stated, sepsis is a complication stemming from an infection.  Additional information concerning sepsis can be seen in the Mayo Clinic pages concerning sepsis.

There has been a nursing home neglect lawsuit filed against a nursing facility in Homewood and a hospital in Harvey, claiming wrongful death due to the failure to properly treat pressure sores.

The lawsuit was filed by Mary Tyus regarding the quality that her mother, Ruthie Tyus, received.  The lawsuit was filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County on November 3, 2015.

An excerpt from the December 31, 2015 Homewood-Flossmoor Patch article titled “Woman Sues Homewood Nursing Home for Negligence“:

In the lawsuit Tyus claims that the medical staff at the facilities failed to properly treat pressure sores that her mother developed while living at the facilities from December 2013 to February 2014, reported The Record. The sores became infected and eventually caused sepsis, which led to the death of Tyus’ mother in April 2014.

Additional details and possible updates concerning this Illinois lawsuit can be found in a variety of media sources, including the Patch article mentioned above, as well as the December 21, 2015 Cook County Record article titled “Daughter’s wrongful death suit blames Manor Care for neglect.”
